1. Minimum Wage: No New Figure Yet โ Decision Comes With Budget 2027 (9 October 2026)
Current status: The minimum wage is RM1,700 a month. The government is considering raising it, but no new figure has been confirmed yet.
- Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah said any decision to raise the minimum wage to RM2,000 rests entirely with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's announcement when he tables Budget 2027 on 9 October 2026, while weighing the impact on small and micro businesses. (Malay Mail, 28 September 2026)
- The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) is instead pushing for RM3,100, pointing out that 34 government-linked companies (GLCs/GLICs) have already paid a RM3,100 living wage to permanent staff since May 2025. What this means for you: Don't treat RM2,000 or RM3,100 as confirmed before 9 October โ both are proposals under consideration, not a decision. We'll update this article as soon as Budget 2027 is tabled.

2. New Industrial Park in Kulai โ More Factories, More Jobs Ahead
Mah Sing Group has confirmed it will develop MS Industrial Park @ Kulai, a RM2.26 billion GDV industrial park on 169.63 hectares of freehold land in Kulai, as part of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). The park will house cluster, semi-detached and detached factories for advanced manufacturing, logistics and technology tenants โ the land acquisition is expected to complete in Q4 2026, with construction to follow. What this means for you: This is a medium-term project (factories aren't operating yet), but it signals more factories opening in the Kulai area over the coming years โ the same area where our rooms are located. Bookmark this and check back once hiring ads start appearing.
3. Bangladesh Worker Recruitment Reopened
After being frozen since May 2024, Malaysia resumed recruiting Bangladeshi workers in the last week of August 2026, according to Bangladesh PM's Adviser Mahdi Amin. A total of 338 Bangladeshi recruiting agencies were listed (25 selected directly by the government, 312 as associate agencies), following bilateral talks aimed at a more transparent process and lower recruitment costs. What this means for you: If you have family or friends in Bangladesh looking to work in Malaysia, the official channel is open again โ make sure they use a verified agency to avoid unreasonable recruitment fees.
4. JBโSingapore RTS Link: Infrastructure Done, Service Expected 2027
The Woodlands North station on the Singapore side is now fully complete, and all station and rail infrastructure on the Malaysian side is also complete. Both countries are now in final integration testing. Passenger service is expected to begin in 2027 (pushed back from the earlier December 2026 target), connecting Bukit Chagar (JB) with Woodlands North (Singapore), with capacity for up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction. What this means for you: RTS Link matters more for workers commuting into Singapore than for Senai/Kulai factory workers โ but it's a major project that will reshape traffic and cost of living across JB in the near term.
